Similarly to the Bulls, the Rockets lost their star big man Dwight Howard and managed to retain their star guard in James Harden.
Howard was always going to leave – his game has been declining since joining the Rockets and he never really settled in.
Harden was always going to stay, lots of minutes night in night out and high ball usage suits his ego.
Their main addition via free agency was he comes with the signing of Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon both of whom are good scoring options to take the weight off Harden.
Houston’s draft was decent but didn’t really set anyone of fire. Adding centres Chicau Onaku and Zhou Qi to their roster in two draft and stash moves allows that position to have strength in depth.
Watch out for – Sam Dekker – injuries permitting
The partnership of Trevor Ariza, James Harden (on his day) and Anderson may blossom this year as maverick Howard leaves the roster to settle.
